The name applies to a distinctive type of coffer, make of wrought iron and strengthened with interlaced bands of the same material. This one has 7 bolts which interlock with turned edges on the chest. Armada Chest does not seem to have been current before the middle of the 19th C. The Armada took place during Queen Elizabeth I's reign in 1588. These were the forerunner for today's safes.
